Friendships beyond the antisocial social media

I used to dream about having girlfriends like in SATC – you know, the kind of girls you can party with, cry with, and even get mad at, all for the long haul. If someone asked me about my BFF, I'd probably draw a blank. But I do realize I've got girlfriends for different phases of life, which kinda keeps the loneliness at bay. Even though I might miss out on some amazing friendships that time swept away. Sadly, not all friends are up for riding life's crazy waves with you.

Nowadays, with social media in the picture, it's a real challenge to stay in the loop. How often do we just make up stories in our heads instead of asking the real questions? Sure, we can drop likes and hearts, but does that really build a solid friendship in this online universe?

Emojis seems to be the main course, and conversations feels less meaningful. It makes me wonder if we're losing our human touch by fitting into the molds technology sets for us.

I get it, life's busier now. Between family, work, and kids, there's hardly enough time for hanging out with friends. That's where mobile phones come in – a lifeline to staying connected.

But honestly, given the choice, I'd still go for a coffee catch-up. There's something magical about being present with someone, giving them a hug, sharing a laugh, and just soaking up the moment. The more we retreat into the digital stories and neglect the value of real-time interactions, the more we risk doubting and overthinking, and that's just not cool for relationships.

This never-ending tug-of-war between real life and reel life – it's like a constant game of "he said, she said" that keeps us all guessing. You know, it's those moments when our expectations get all tangled up with what we see on screens, and before you know it, misunderstandings are knocking at the door.

On social media, friendships are often painted with broad strokes, capturing the highlights and glazing over the complexities. Those heart-to-heart chats and deep bonding moments? Yeah, they're there, but they're edited down to fit neatly into an episode or a post. Meanwhile, in real life, friendships are a colorful mosaic of emotions, misunderstandings, and shared experiences.

Misunderstandings have a knack for sneaking in when we least expect them. Maybe you're expecting your friends to be there for you 24/7, just like in the movies. But they’ve got their own lives too, with responsibilities, work, family, and maybe even a few other friends jostling for their attention. It's not that they don't care; it's just that real life doesn't always sync up with the Hollywood script.

Then there's the whole communication circus. Social media characters seem to have a sixth sense about what's going on in each other's minds just by their 15 seconds stories. But in real life? Mind-reading isn't a common skill. You've got to ask the right questions and have those heart-to-heart talks to actually know what's going on beneath the surface.

Oh, and let's not forget the social media rabbit hole. We see those glossy, filtered snapshots of friends having a blast, and suddenly we're left feeling like our lives are missing out. Social media paints this picture of constant excitement, but real life? Real life has its share of mundane moments, mixed in with the fun stuff.

So, what's the takeaway here? Well, it's important to remember that reel life is an art form – a beautifully crafted illusion that makes us dream and sometimes question our own reality. It's easy to get caught up in the idea that our friendships should mirror what we see on screen, but that's not always the case.

Real life friendships come with their quirks and challenges, but they're also rich with depth and authenticity. They might not always follow the script, and there might be misunderstandings along the way. But isn't that what makes them uniquely ours?

At the end of the day, it's about finding a balance between the social media fantasies and the messy, beautiful reality. Embrace the imperfections, celebrate the little moments, and maybe, just maybe, recognize that even the best TV shows have their blooper reels. After all, it's the mix of reality and made believe that gives our friendships their dynamic, ever-evolving charm.
