5 Steps to Build Resilience and Grit

First, I want to employ anyone reading who might feel uncertain and unwell in your situation. “You are not alone.”

"I found that with depression, one of the most important things you could realize is that you're not alone." — Dwayne Johnson

After, and still going through this whirl of ups and downs while building my presence in a non-physical world. I’ve found two words that continue to stand out.

RESILIENCE is one’s ability to recover quickly from difficulties while GRIT refers to the strength of one’s character - of passion and perseverance for long-term goals.

Did you know we can strengthen our resilience and grit? Enabling us to face challenges with determination, bounce back from setbacks, and continue progressing toward our aspirations.

Here are my thoughts and 5 baby steps to build your resilience and grit in most areas of your life.

*Please note that these are key points from my research and reading. Paraphrased in my own words.
Links are mentioned below.

✿ Connect with a support group

Surrounding yourself with a supportive network of people can provide encouragement, guidance, and a sense of belonging. Seek out individuals who understand your goals and challenges and who can offer insights, advice, emotional support, and even prayers when needed. You can include friends, family, mentors, or like-minded individuals/communities who share similar aspirations to yours.

"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." - Hebrews 10:24-25

✿ Prioritize self-care and inward awareness

Taking care of your physical, mental, and emotional well-being is essential for resilience and grit. Engage in activities that promote self-care, such as exercise, adequate sleep, healthy eating, and relaxing activities. Additionally, cultivating inward awareness by practicing mindfulness or self-reflection can help you understand and manage your thoughts, emotions, and reactions to stressors.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things, there is no law." - Galatians 5:22-23

✿ Embrace adversity

Adversity is an inevitable part of life, and embracing it is crucial. Instead of avoiding or resisting challenges, face them head-on. Embrace the discomfort and uncertainty in difficult situations, as they provide opportunities for growth and learning. By confronting adversity, you build resilience and develop the ability to navigate obstacles more effectively. On another note, this is not about pushing off the negativity. Our emotions are part of who we are; negative thoughts and emotions are a processing unit for us to understand who we are becoming.

“If your faith remains strong, even while surrounded by life’s difficulties, you will continue to experience the untold blessings of God! True happiness comes as you pass the test with faith, and receive the victorious crown of life promised to every lover of God!” - James 1:12

✿ Recognize effort as the path to mastery

"Cultivate a mindset that values effort and persistence over immediate success."
I cannot stress enough how important it is to understand that mastery in any area requires consistent effort, practice, and a willingness to learn from mistakes. Celebrate your progress and the small victories, as they contribute to long-term growth. By recognizing and appreciating the effort you put into your pursuits, you develop resilience and the determination to keep pressing forward.

"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” - Galatians 6:9

✿ Seek lessons and inspiration IN others

Stories and testimonies of others can be a source of motivation and learning. Take time to journey with individuals who are ahead in the areas that interest you. Analyze their strategies, setbacks, and triumphs, and extract valuable lessons that you can apply to your own endeavors. Let their stories inspire and guide you in your own pursuit of goals. Alternatively, there are available mentorships or coaching that may be necessary in the areas where you require growth.

"Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future." - Proverbs 19:20

Adversity can have many positive effects on our lives and it is in the pushing, we form muscles for grit. 💪🏼 Remember you’re not alone in this world. Feel free to reach out if you need a listening ear. x
